Day 5: Recognized in the Ordinary
Reading: Luke 24:28-35 -- As Jesus sat with the two disciples at the table in Emmaus, He broke bread with them, and in that ordinary moment their eyes were opened and they recognized Him. Their hearts had already been burning within them as He walked and spoke with them along the road.
Devotional:
Jesus did not reveal himself in a flash of lightning or a thunderclap. He revealed himself at a dinner table, in the breaking of bread. The moment was quiet. It was ordinary. And it changed everything. We spend so much time waiting for God to show up in the spectacular that we miss Him in the simple. He is in the early morning before the house wakes up. He is in the conversation with a friend that takes an unexpected turn toward something meaningful. He is in the stillness after a long day. As Pastor Seth said, "If you're looking for him in the spectacular, you'll miss him in the ordinary." Today, slow down enough to recognize Him.
Reflection Questions:
Where have you seen God show up in an ordinary moment recently that you may have almost missed?
What would it look like practically to make more room for God in the everyday rhythms of your life?
Practical Application: Choose one ordinary moment in your day today -- a meal, a commute, a walk -- and intentionally invite God into it. Acknowledge His presence. Pay attention to what stirs in your heart during that time.
