Day 4: His Ways Are Higher Than Yours
Reading: Isaiah 55:8-9 -- God declares that His thoughts and ways are entirely unlike human thoughts and ways, and that the distance between them is as vast as the distance between the heavens and the earth.
Devotional:
The disciples on the road to Emmaus expected Jesus to defeat Rome. God's plan was to defeat death. Their expectation was not wrong because it was too big -- it was wrong because it was too small. God had something far greater in mind than political liberation. He was securing eternal redemption. When our prayers go unanswered in the way we hoped, it is tempting to conclude that God has failed us. But as Pastor Seth said, "God may not fulfill our expectations, but He will always fulfill His purpose." The gap between what we expect and what God does is not evidence of His absence. It is evidence of His greater vision.
Reflection Questions:
Is there a prayer you prayed years ago that went unanswered in the way you hoped, but looking back you can now see God's better plan?
Where in your life right now are you struggling to trust God's plan over your own expectations?
Practical Application: Read Isaiah 55:8-9 slowly three times today. After each reading, identify one area where you need to consciously surrender your expectations to God's higher purpose.
