Day 3: Bringing Your Honest Pain to God

Reading: Psalm 34:17-18 -- The psalmist declares that the Lord hears the cry of the righteous, that He is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

Devotional:

When Jesus walked alongside the two disciples on the road to Emmaus, He already knew everything that had happened. He knew the crucifixion. He knew the empty tomb. He knew their confusion and heartbreak. And yet He asked them, "What things?" He gave them room to speak. He invited them to pour out what was hurting. This is who our God is. He is not a God who demands that we perform composure in His presence. He is a God who leans in and says, tell me what is going on. Prayer is not pretending everything is fine. It is bringing everything that is broken and laying it before the one who can do something about it.

Reflection Questions:

Have you been pretending to be fine in your prayers rather than being honest with God about what you are feeling?

What is one thing you have been reluctant to bring to God because it felt too raw or too messy?

Practical Application: Write an honest prayer today. Do not clean it up. Do not make it sound spiritual. Simply tell God exactly where you are and exactly what you are feeling. He can handle it.
